Technology Management Tips
General Tips & Info
- A major issue you've probably experienced is students being on applications they should not be on. Keep the following in mind:
On a Mac, all active applications (those that may not be seen but are open) have a little blue spotlight underneath them. Hitting the red X in the upper-left will not "QUIT" the application; if the spotlight is there, the student can quickly go back to where they were in an application - after you leave - without losing what they were doing (or being signed out, e.g. Skype). You can have students QUIT the application easily, though, by hitting CMD+Q while in the active program.
You may consider communicating the expectation that ONLY the applications being used in class should be active (e.g. blue spotlight). If anything else is up, consequences would follow.
- Keep your eyes roaming for the tech-savvy students and UTILIZE THEM! Make a list of those students, and try to seat them sporadically throughout the classroom...and let them know that it's okay to get up and help.
You may also consider making survey for your students to take that would help you pinpoint their skill level. See your 21st Century Learning Coach for more details on how to do this!
