So, first, let's talk about what Dropbox is not? It is NOT at all the same thing as your SharePoint Dropbox on the school's network and it is NOT ONLY available at school. In fact, Dropbox is available ANYTIME, ANYWHERE you have access to the internet...regardless of what computer you are on!
Here's what it is...
Dropbox.com is essentially "the cloud," that ambiguous file space in the sky; it is a way for you to save files on a company's server (in this case, Dropbox.com) to access anywhere. The cool thing about Dropbox, though, is that an application is available for your computer that allows you to just drag and drop files into a folder (just like any other folder), and those files will automatically sync to "the cloud" so you can access them wherever! If you're not on your computer with the Dropbox folder, you simply go to Dropbox.com, login, and...Voila!...you have access to those files!
It also provides an excellent way for you to share files with others. You simply choose which folders to share with other Dropbox users, and any changes that are made to the folders (by you or them) are automatically synced to each person's Dropbox.
